Great day on the water for our group of salmon fishermen. A lot of boats out trying but not a lot of fish being caught. We got lucky and everyone is having salmon tonight!
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly!
We report ALL of our fishing trips so you can have an idea of how the catching has been going. Pictures show just some of their catch for the day. Click on any picture to get a better view.
April 14
Wild ride out at Jurassic Park today. Water was gOoFy and a wee bit uncomfortable. Slow pick today but everyone went home with snapper and lingcod. Thanks to Joe and his crew for sticking through the fishing conditions. Tomorrow we’re back to fishing salmon.
April 11
Another fine weather day at the salmon grounds. We got some nice salmon but not the catching numbers we’re accustomed to. Fortunately our friends did okay. Couple days off and we’ll be back hammering the salmon.
April 10
Awesome salmon trip today and the fishing was red hot! Hooked into a lot of fish and brought home the six biggest king salmon. Great whale show coming back in today.
April 9
Another awesome day of salmon fishing with my ole fishing buddies Deborah and Pat and their kids and grandkids. Great fishing with eight hook-ups and boating four beautiful king salmon. Good job! Weather got ugly.
April 8
Salmon charter again and the fish were waiting for us. Wham! Right from the get go we started boating nice quality kings. Fished till 1030 and everyone was ready to go home. Exceeded expectations… again! Great group.
April 7
Local potluck fishing today. Expectations were high and even though the water’s still chilly at 52 degrees, we found local fish to bite. In fact, our best catch of reds since mid last year. 17 beautiful red pacific snapper to 4.5 pounds. Mixed in with some olive, canary, brown and starry rockfish. Great day and it was an honor to have retired PBR bull rider Dustin Marberry on the boat. Great time!
April 6
The salmon are in town! We still have a few days open in April so if you want some killer salmon better get on the boat before they’re gone! Click here to sign up! <montereybaycharters.com/rates-and-booking>
April 5
Jurassic Park today and a good lingcod day it was. Fished deep for lingcod then closer to shore for rockcod. Although the rockcod didn’t cooperate, we NAILED five limits of lingcod before the wind chased us back to port.
April 4
Fished local potluck today and what a blast! Parents with four, six and eight-year-old boys went to town and did good! Mom was the highliner with big olives from the start and a nice four-pound red. Great day and now it’s fish taco night!
April 3
First salmon trip of the year. A lot of boats out and there were some fish caught but most boats, including us, came home empty handed. Our next salmon trip is next week and I’m hoping to have something good to report. Stay tuned!
April 2
Another Jurassic Park trip today and the lingcod were waiting for us. As soon as nine-year-old Joe dropped in he had his first lingcod. Biggest fish of his life. Weather soon came up a bit abruptly but we were able to hang in there for another four lingcod before heading closer to shore to finish up with small to large snapper.
April 1
Opening day for the 2021 fishing season. We had a blast at Jurassic Park. And a great whale show to boot. The fish are biting!
December 31
Yesterday was our last charter until April 1st. What a year we had. A lot of challenges but also a lot of fun when we did get to fish. Thanks to all of our Customers for your support this year. You really helped us keep afloat!
See you all next year! Happy New Year!
December 30
Perfect clear weather for today’s combo trip. Ran out to the crab grounds and got some really nice crab then headed closer to shore for rockfish. Probably a combination of the big swell, full moon, cold water and who knows what else, but the fish had lockjaw.
December 29
Gorgeous day for our crab combo. Ran out to the crab grounds and got some nice crab to 3 pounds. Then headed in closer for the rockcod fishing. With the big swell still in town, as expected it was a slow but steady pick. Fun day!
December 27
Weather man missed this one. Supposed to be a nice day but the swell was bigger than forecasted. Still got some crab and fish but it wasn’t easy. But it sure was fun!
December 20
Big swell in town again so the bite was slow. Crab pirates have been out in full force but we were able to get a few limits of big crab. Happy campers!
December 19
A wee bit chilly early morning but got nice out as the day went on. Small groundswell today seems to have knocked the bite down a notch. Today we got 1/2 limits and the fish were more on the smaller size.
Covid Update
Effective now, and until Covid is under control, we have decided to only offer private charters (no open loads or walk-ons, everyone must be from the same group). We understand we may lose business by adopting this policy but we feel strongly this is necessary to keep our valued Customers and ourselves safe. We all need to do our part in helping stem this virus. This is our part.
December 18
Swell has finally come down so we’re back out fishing and the fish were happy to see us. Ran out to one of our lucky spots and as soon as we dropped in it was fish on! Non-stop catching for a few hours of both big and medium size blues and olive pacific snapper. Even tossed back 20-30 small ones to grow. Came into the lingcod grounds and tried for an hour with no luck.
December 11
Crab only trip today and what a blast. Swell was still big but our seasoned sea-goers were up to the task. Got out to the crab grounds and got our limits pulse a crew limit then headed back home in calmer seas. Time to cook and freeze the crab for Christmas and New Year’s dinners.
December 6
Perfect weather and flat calm water but the ground swell (swell you don’t get on the surface) is making visibility for the fish almost impossible. We got some fish yesterday but could have used more. Six limits plus of crab more than made up for the lack of fish. Very happy group and a real joy to fish with.
December 4
Big ground swell in town which has impacted the catching. We didn’t get many fish today but we got plenty of crab. Swell dissipates early next week.
November 30
Beautiful water today and great crabbing and fishing. Fished first to get our limits of nice olive, blue, canary and red pacific snapper then to the crab grounds. Big crab and plenty of them too. Limits of crab and fish for everyone!
Novemver 29
Nice flat calm water today for our Jurassic crab combo. Started with getting our crab at the crab grounds then out deep for the lingcod. Found no love out deep so headed up to Davenport and got some nice fish. Came closer to port and finished up with limits of BIG blues, olives, browns, coppers and a few red pacific snapper to five pounds!
November 28
Another chilly morning for a local crab combo. Started catching fish as soon as we dropped in for limits plus crew fish of big blues, olives and red pacific snapper to five pounds. Then headed out for crab and even though someone ran our gear we still ended up getting our crab. Nice day and happy 17th birthday Aidan!
November 27
Chilly this morning for our local crab combo trip. Got out to the crab grounds and someone’s been busy pulling our gear and taking our crab. Fortunately they didn’t get them all but it sure does make a lot of extra work for us to get the crab we need. Came in closer for rock fishing and WOW! BIG blues again mixed in with a good grade of olive pacific snapper.
November 23
Great day for a local potluck and crab combo trip. Weather was a little warmer and the seas were a bit more comfortable (for most). Ran through the crab gear then came into shallower water for our rockfish and it was game on! Pretty much non-stop catching. Came home with fish and crab limits for five including some red pacific snapper pushing seven pounds!
November 22
Jurassic Park baby! Ran out to the crab pot farm and got our crabs then headed to the deep for lingcod. First drift we nailed a couple nice lings, the biggest was 18 pounds! Then that was it! Got a few small lings but the lingcod bite died. Fortunately the rockfish bite was good! Came home with limits for six of olive, brown, canary, blue, and red pacific snapper to six pounds! Great day.
