Off to Jurassic Park today with high hopes. Last time Donglin fished with us we had 150 pounds of lingcod and rockcod. This time the results weren’t so good. Water temp got very cold and we have a lot of current. Brough home halibut and a few rockcod. Sorry Donglin, better luck next time.
August 20
Our local potluck trip turned into a Jurassic Park trip using live bait. Dropped in our lines with live bait and the lingcod were waiting! Hooked into seven lings but only kept the three biggest. The rockcod were big too. Was pretty much a haul ’em in day with reds, browns, canary, olive and blue rockfish.
August 19
Jurassic Park trip today up the coast. The full moon and cold water has really slowed down the catching fir the past couple days. We did manage to get our fish but had to work pretty hard. Reds, browns, black, blue and olive rockfish today.

August 3 – Afternoon trip
Out to the local grounds again but the wind was blowing pretty hard. Moved around a lot and found some fish but not as many as we’d like. Had a great whale show in the distance with whales jumping completely out of the water. Incredible sight.
August 3 – Morning trip
Out to the local fishing grounds today and the water was a wee bit bumpy. Made fishing a little more challenging but that didn’t deter John and his crew from nailing nice blue rockfish. Awesome trip.
August 2 – Afternoon trip
Wind came up a bit but that didn’t stop the fish from biting. We whacked ’em good with double hook ups the norm. Great day for our family from Kansas,
August 2 – Morning trip
Since halibut has been slow we opted for rockcod. Short run out to South Rock for a steady pick of mixed olives and blues.
July 29
Flat as a pancake water today and just a slight breeze for our local potluck today. Got to the fishing grounds, dropped in our lines, and started bringing up the cod. Awesome catching today.
July 28
Prefect flat calm water and no fog for our local potluck trip today. Ran out to South Rock, dropped in our lines, and just started hauling in fish. Incredible how much this area is still producing fish.
July 27
Out for another day of local potluck fishing. Wind was up a bit and so were the seas. That didn’t deter our group of six from bringing quality fish over the rail non-stop. Great fun and early back to the barn.
July 26 – Afternoon trip
Ran back out to our local honey holes this time the wind and seas we bigger. The fish liked it too. Slammed out our fish lickety split and got out of there pronto! Wild and fun ride.
July 26 – Morning trip
Flat as a pancake water this morning with fog. Wandered out to our local honey hole and as soon as we dropped in the fish started biting. Grandpa Marty and family back for their summer fishing trip. Seasoned fisherman 8yo Cameron did most of the heavy lifting and brought in most of the fish! This is Cameron’s second season on the MEGA-BITE and his skills have certainly improved. Can’t wait to see how he does next summer.
July 25
Three generations including first timer on the ocean 11yo Blake out to the local fishing grounds. Seas were flat calm, had some fog that kept the air temps perfect, and a wide-open rockcod bite. Blake got real busy hauling in most of the fish. Before you knew it we were done and it was time to head back to port. Great first time experience for Blake. He was certainly the star of the day.
July 22
Out for a local potluck trip with a little fog but nice seas. Got into the fish right away and picked away till we were done. Nice quality fish too!
July 21
Out to the rockcod honey holes again today. Seas were big and bumpy but that didn’t stop the fish from biting. In fact, they were biting like crazy. Our group whooped ’em good today!
July 20 – Afternoon trip
Tried to get back out to our last good bite spot but the winds were up and so was the water. Looked around closer to shore and WHAM, we got into a crazy bite of mixed sized blues. It was one of the best bite’s we’ve had this year. Lot’s of fun and the four teenagers, mom and dad were worked pretty hard. Great fishing!
July 20 – Morning trip
With the red tide in town we decided instead to go out to the rockcod honey holes. A little slow at first then after moving around a bit it went to a wide open bite. Amazing fish.
July 19
Water turned a little uglier with the south swell and fog that came in. We got to our fishing grounds and were pulling in the fish big time but… the group had enough rough water and pulled the plug early.
July 18
Big southerly swell in town so only thing worth fishing for was the rockcod. Ran out to our jumbo blues honey hole and it was non-stop action. Hooked into over 100 fish and only kept the biggest. Wide open bite again!
July 17
Weather was coming in so we opted to fish local reefs for lingcod and South Rock for the jumbo blues we’ve been getting lately. Ground swell pretty much put the kibosh on lingcod but South Rock kicked out the jumbo blues non-stop! 12yo Jay and 15yo Randy did most of the muscle work and filled the box while proud dad Pete enjoyed the action. Was Jay’s first time on the ocean and he’s a natural! Good work boys!
July 16
Local potluck on perfectly calm water today. Ran out to our honey hole, dropped in our lines, and started whacking the jumbo blues. 11yo Charlie from Ft Worth area was the star of the day bringing up jumbo doubles.
