Fish Report Archive for 2025
The 2025 fishing season is officially in the books — and what a season it was. A huge thank-you to all our new customers, and an extra-big shoutout to our returning customers for making our 20th season one of the most memorable and productive we’ve ever had.
This year we outdid ourselves again:
• More big halibut
• Bigger lingcod
• Box-filling limits of chili peppers, reds, and a whole lineup of rockcod. It was nonstop action from spring through fall, and we couldn’t have done it without you.
Now it’s time for the offseason ritual — tearing things apart, fixing what needs fixing, upgrading what needs upgrading — so MEGA-BITE is dialed in and ready to roll for next year. Our 2026 season kicks off April 1st.
Thanks again for an incredible year, and from all of us here at MEGA-BITE Charters, we wish you a safe, happy holiday season. See you on the rail next spring!

From that point on it was wide-open, non-stop action. Rods bent, big smiles, steady bites, and easy limits for everyone on board. A fantastic day on the water and a great memory to kick off the holiday season.
*Jurassic Park strikes again!*
This is as good as rockcod fishing gets!
*
We made the long run up to our yellowtail area and the moment we dropped in—*non-stop action*. BIG yellowtail coming over the rail two at a time! Even 5-year-old Theo was in on the chaos, cranking up multiple double hook-ups (nice coaching, Dad). Biggest yellow tail went five pounds. Most around two pounds. Perfect Thanksgiving family trip—*fish flying, smiles everywhere*. And tomorrow? No turkey… just a feast of ocean goodness:

Ceviche –
Rockcod tacos –
A Swedish fish dish –
A Brazilian fish dish –
Classic fish & chips (beer batter, of course)
*Yum. Happy Thanksgiving from the MEGA-BITE crew!*
LINGCOD LIMITS & NON-STOP ACTION TODAY!
* We ran out to our special lingcod grounds this morning and it didn’t take long for things to light up. After a quick 20 minutes making live bait and about an hour of searching, the bite switched on—and it was game on from there.
The quality was excellent. Biggest lingcod of the day tipped the scale at *21.6 pounds*! And Grandpa stole the show with a *double—two lingcod at the same time!*
Ten-year-old *Tommy (“aka Hook”)* was a rock star on deck, helping load up the box and keeping the action rolling.
We wrapped up with *limits for Grandpa, Tom, and full crew limits of solid lingcod.* The lingcod are on the chew—now’s the time to get out here!
We had a great family onboard visiting for Thanksgiving, and nine-year-old *Lars*—his first time ever fishing the ocean—was an absolute *rock star*. Kid was reeling like a pro and smiling the whole way.
Another fun day on the water aboard MEGA-BITE!
The big swell is *still* hanging around, but we pushed through it and got the job done. Worked the local rockcod grounds and put together *3/4 limits of quality blues*, plus a nice mix of crab to round out the day.
*Highliner of the trip: 14-year-old Zach*, who absolutely crushed it out there. Well done, Zach!
Great day on the water with a great crew.
Still, persistence paid off. Another fun day with great people on the water!
On the way out we dropped our crab hoop nets, then continued to the rockcod grounds—and it was *wide-open* from the start. After putting a solid dent in the rockcod, we ran the crab gear, reset it, and headed back out for more action.
Round two on the rockcod was just as good, and we wrapped up with *quality limits of blue rockcod*. After that it was one last pass on the crab strings before pointing MEGA-BITE toward home.
*A perfect day on the water with great people and great fishing.*
We’re heading into the *final stretch of the season*, so if you’re looking to *stock the freezer* with prime rockfish for the winter months, *now’s the time to get out here*!
*Book your trip today* — spots are limited and these last few weeks always fill fast.
Fog hung over the Jurassic Park grounds all day, keeping things cooler than usual. We started the morning hunting where we left off yesterday, but the chili peppers had clearly moved on. The bite was finicky at first, but once things turned on, it was steady action on big reds (vermillion), canaries, and boccaccio. By the end of the day, we came home with a *full box of quality fish* — a solid haul despite the fog!
We had to grind it out a bit today, but the bite came alive on the deep reef slope! Chili pepper and green spot rockcod were stacked — doubles after doubles coming up from the deep. Before we knew it, limits were in the box! After wrapping up our rockcod limits, we headed in closer and switched gears for some lingcod action to finish the day strong.
Flat seas, great crew, and full limits — just another epic day aboard *MEGA-BITE*!
Fishing out of Santa Cruz is still going strong!
Bluefin are moving closer to our grounds, with two around 150 lbs caught just yesterday. Halibut action remains solid, and some are getting big (30+ pounds)! Lingcod season is heating up as the big ones move in from the deep to spawn. Rockfish have been fantastic. And don’t miss our Jurassic Park – Deep Reef opener coming up—stay tuned!
Ashley from Modesto landed the star of the trip—a 41″ 30-lb halibut that put up a serious fight!
Not long after, three rods bent at once and in just 90 minutes we had limits for four anglers. Back to the dock early with happy anglers, eight halibut, and full coolers. This was our season’s biggest halibut.
Great fishing today!
We brought home ten fish and released some lingcod, rockcod, and a halibut or two. There were lots of smiles and it was hard work, and it definitely paid off big time! Our biggest catch was 22 pounds.

The action was non-stop, with many double hookups! There were even times when all six rods onboard had a fish on. On top of a boatload of rockcod, we also reeled in greenling and a nice cabezon.
Overall, it was a fantastic day out on the water, and we had some very happy customers.
Unfortunately, the ground swell was pretty bad and eventually the weather took a turn. The halibut weren’t biting. While we didn’t land any halibut this time, we did manage to bring in some rockcod, which helped soften the disappointment a bit.
We headed up the coast to one of our favorite fishing spots, and the fish started biting as soon as our lines were in the water. It was non-stop action, with fish on almost constantly and even some double hookups. It was a really fun group of young men, and kudos to the dad for taking them on their graduation trip.
It was a nice trip, and those kids are practically pros now!
Just wanted to share a quick update from our local potluck trip today. We’re still dealing with a strong current, which has made the fishing a bit slow. We managed to catch some ground fish, but unfortunately, no school-sized fish today and not as many as we’d hoped.
The good news is that we’re expecting the ocean conditions to change within the week, and hopefully, the fishing will return to normal then.
Lingcod, petrale sole, chili pepper and canary rockcod was on the menu today. Big lings to 17 pounds. Water was perfect. A shout out to out three Army soldiers on board. Good job everyone!
